WEBSITE
STATUS
In our January 1998 initial NEWSLETTER, it was
announced that the SOCIETY was in the process of
creating a website. On Dec. 15, 1998 our website
was officially launched. Developing the site was a
challenge and cooperative effort. Our web designer
Moran Dán did a great job in putting
together a composite site that provides good
information about our society.
The web address is www.capebretonet.com/Baddeck/
BSS. Our site includes newsletters published to
date, links to other relevant sites, maps showing
shellfish closure sites, a forum for public input
and a membership subscription form. Please tell
others about the website, as the benefits can be
exponential in terms of accessing a wealth of
information focusing on environmental
organizations. The links chosen provide global
access to environmental cyberspace.

Baddeck
Sewage
Treatment Concerns
T he Planning Advisory Committee in Baddeck has
been holding monthly meetings to discuss the
current inadequacies of the Baddeck sewage
treatment plant. Simon Chiasson, James O'Brien and
Henry Fuller, members of the Board of the Bras d'Or
Stewardship Society, have been attending these
meetings as guests. It is well recognized by the
Baddeck PAC that the sewage treatment plant in
Baddeck is taxed beyond its capacity. The PAC plans
to hold a community education day on January 26,
1999 which will bring to the attention of the
residents of Baddeck the need for upgrading the
current sewage treatment system.
