The Bras d'Or Stewardship Society is a membership organization of committed individuals to promote accountable and responsible stewardship of the Bras d'Or Lake and its watershed. Our goal is to promote an appropriate strategy to conserve, restore and protect the Bras d'Or Lake for ourselves and future generations. Concerned individuals all around the lake and beyond are invited to join and participate in helping the society achieve its goals. Through public meetings, newsletters and educational activities, we will work to conserve, protect and restore the lake and its watershed. As a group, we will be better able to voice our concerns regarding the safe-guarding of the future environmental health of the watershed to government, business and the general public.
The Bras d'Or Stewardship Society is a non-profit organization, established under the laws of Nova Scotia. It seeks to build and strengthen respect for the unique eco-system of the lake, for its diversity and beauty. The society aims to gather ideas and scientific information relating to the lake. It provides a forum for education, co-operation and partnership among interested individuals and communities. It promotes the principles of responsible stewardship. What does Stewardship mean? Stewardship means that we who live on the lake and in the watershed are able and willing to look after it, and to co-operate with others to keep its waters clean. Stewardship can be a simple thing like cleaning up after a picnic so there is no sign of anybody having been there. It can be as rewarding as getting involved with the Society's work. Through co-operation and communication, we will establish goals and realize our mutual interest in a lake clean enough for all to take pride in. |
